UAE Minister of Culture is interested in cooperation with Russia

Abu Dhabi, UAE. On November 3, 2010, Igor Nuyaksov, chairman of the REDS, head of the working group (subcommittee) on science, education, technology, culture, sports and tourism of the Russian-Emirate Intergovernmental Commission (IPC), in the presence of Russian Ambassador A.V. Andreev, met in the Ministry for UAE culture, youth and social development with Federal Minister Abdul Rahman Al Owais.

During the meeting, they discussed the results of the second meeting of the Russian-Emirate IPC held in June 2010 in Moscow, as well as issues of the development of culture and sports, in connection with which Igor Nuyaksov suggested speeding up the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation in the field of sports between authorized agencies Russia and the UAE.

This document was developed and approved at a meeting of the commission in Moscow and handed over to the emirate side.

Of great interest during the negotiations was the initiative to hold the Russian Culture Week in the UAE in 2011. The program of the festival, which was presented by Yevgeny Morozov, head of the Department of Culture of REDS, plans to include performances by the best creative groups and performers: maestro V. Spivakova, M. Fedotov, N. Petrov, the Kremlin Ballet troupe, soloists of the Opera House, and Russian folk folk ensembles. It is also planned to involve creative teams of the republics of Tatarstan and Bashkortostan. The project provides for an art exhibition.

E. Morozov informed the Emirate Minister of the work that is already being carried out jointly with the Agency for the Culture of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi.

Minister Abdul Rahman al-Oweis assured that he would give all possible support to the Russian Culture Week in the UAE and suggested using the Emirates Palace Hotel (Emirate Palace) and the Abu Dhabi National Theater for this venue. In addition, the minister advised that part of the events be held in Dubai, Sharjah and Al Ain, so that as many people in the United Arab Emirates as possible could get acquainted with the best examples of Russian culture. He gave relevant instructions to the staff of his ministry in order to coordinate joint work on the Russian Culture Week in the UAE.

During the conversation, Russian Ambassador to the United Arab Emirates Andrei Andreev discussed with the Minister of Culture of the United Arab Emirates the possibility of continuing work on the preparation of an intergovernmental agreement in the field of culture between Russia and the United Arab Emirates.

Minister Abdul Rahman al-Oweis reiterated his interest in developing bilateral cultural and humanitarian cooperation. Mr. Abdul Rahman al-Oweis admitted that he respected Russian culture and art, and shared his plans to visit Russia next year, in particular, expressed a desire to visit its cultural and historical center - the city of St. Petersburg.

The Minister of Culture was happy to receive a national souvenir - a Russian matryoshka from the Russian delegation, after which the meeting participants made a memorable photo.
