British accused of theft escapes extradition to Dubai

The decision of the British court in favor of the British, accused of stealing money from the safe of his Dubai employer, was based on the accused’s unconventional sexual orientation.

The Dubai court’s request for the extradition of Michael Holliday from the UK to Dubai, where he is accused of stealing money from the safe of the store where he worked as a manager, will not be satisfied, as the Westminster Magistrates Court decided, and the reason for this decision was no doubt the justice of the charges. and the accused’s gay sexual orientation and detention conditions in Dubai.

The defendant’s lawyers were able to convince the British judge that since Dubai laws impose sexual intercourse between males on up to 10 years in prison and even the death penalty on the UAE federal penal code, there is a risk that the Dubai court will make a biased decision that is not based on on the evidence, and on the open homosexuality of the accused. Meanwhile, the accused denies any involvement in the theft, but claims that he would go to Dubai to defend his good name in court, if not for his sexual orientation.

In addition, an expert sent to Dubai by the Royal Prosecution Service, who is involved in the case as a representative of the UAE, was denied access to the Dubai prison in order to familiarize himself with the conditions of detention. Over the past 5 years, 49 British prisoners have complained of ill-treatment in UAE prisons, 19 of them claiming to have been beaten from slapping in the face to more serious actions.
