Gentlemen Perfumers: Caron. Echo of his time

The perfume house CARON opened its doors to visitors on Rue de la Paix, 10, in Paris at the very beginning of 1904. The incredible talent and unique sense of smell of the founder of the house - Ernest Daltroff, elevated the name CARON to the pinnacle of success not only in France but throughout the rest of the world. CARON happily combined two remarkable talents: Daltroff with his unique sense of smell, or, as perfumers say, “nose”, and Felicia Vanpuyi, an ambitious former dressmaker who became the permanent designer of all CARON bottles, until her death in 1967 in 93 years old.

Today, CARON deserves to be proud of more than three dozen perfumes, known for their incomparable richness of shades, the construction of a perfect range of aromas and the design of bottles. Dubai has a unique CARON boutique boudoir located in Wafi. There we met with Vice President and CEO of Caron Romain Ales.

Romain, how would you describe what Caron is today?

Caron House, which is more than a hundred years old, is a pure perfume art based on traditions and precious ingredients that no one else uses. Caron is the House of High Perfume. Our main task is to realize the dreams of women, both all and each of them.

Such selectivity implies that fans of your spirits must be unusual women, right?

Yes, the woman who chooses Caron is completely different from the others. Our aromas are woven in such a way that they reveal the fullness of their feelings only after quite a long time. The Caron woman is elegant and unique. She knows exactly what she wants in life. Therefore, she is inclined to choose one of our flagship fragrances that we have been producing for over 100 years: “Narcisse Noir”, “Nuit de Noel”, “Bellodgia”, “Fleurs de Rocaille”, “Muguet du Bonheur”, “Lady Caron” or “Pour une Femme.”

Which of the Caron fragrances, of which about thirty are produced today, could you call an absolute bestseller, no matter in which country in the world?

Perhaps the most popular of our fragrances I would call “Nuit de Noel” (“Christmas night”). These spirits were released before the First World War and, by the way, received official recognition of the Russian Imperial Court. Then, after the revolution of 1917, they were banned by the Communists, as, however, the celebration of the Nativity of Christ was canceled in Russia. And so, in the early 1990s, we realized that these of our spirits received their rebirth. They are extremely popular in France, in Russia and in other countries of the world.

As for our other fragrances, I can only say that all of our formulas are patented and belong to the Caron house. It is impossible to repeat them. And the choice is up to the customers.

Caron perfumes are distinguished by their original and recognizable packaging, created by Felicia Vanpuyi. Are you not going to change anything?

The shape of the bottles of our perfumes resembles a real French boudoir of the XIX century. The same theme can be seen in the design of all our branded boutiques around the world. Why change something? The only thing we do is to supplement our bottles with some interesting details, for example, Swarovski crystals, or produce smaller bottles to make it convenient to travel with.

In a nutshell, please tell me what is the famous "perfume fountains" Caron?

Fountains are installed in each of our boutiques; they allow customers to come to Caron and fill their bottles with the perfumes they want, right from the fountain. This is a unique concept that no other perfume houses have.

So, Caron is a synonym for true femininity and originality?

That's right. If a woman wears Caron, then she knows her worth and does not want to be like others.
