Audi R8 V10 sports car from Bavaria

The company AUDI has prepared an excellent gift for all its fans for the 100th anniversary of the company - the Audi R8 V10 sports car, which is adapted as much as possible (from the point of view of safety and handling) for both experienced and not very sophisticated speed lovers. The new Audi R8 V10 is a very successful combination of all-wheel drive, engine power (525 hp), safety and comfort in one - the most beautiful sports car hailing from Bavaria.

If you look at this sports car, you won’t dispute the claim that the Audi R8 is simply stunning! What is it that he has already managed to fall in love with many grimaces of the front and assembled, in a kind, sports aggression "tail". These advantages of the Audi R8 were further emphasized by an even more sophisticated design and sophistication, and the unique elegance of the lines. All this in itself determines and puts this novelty of the season at the highest level of the sports segment of the car market. Thanks to all these advantages, the Audi R8 V10 can easily coexist with such monsters - competitors of the ultimate drive, such as: Lamborghini Gallardo or Ferrari.

If you turn your eyes to the body of a new product from Audi, it will immediately become clear that absolutely all adjacent elements of the Audi R8 were literally “weighted” with high accuracy. Along with this, we can safely put the company’s use of its own technologies, such as the Audi Space Frame (ASF), which provided this sports car with much-needed bodybuilding, and metals such as aluminum and magnesia provided an opportunity for the manufacturing team to bring the frame weight to maximum 210 kilograms.

Under the hood

Compared to the Audi R8 V8 4.2, the V10 cylinder R8 has become a liter larger. This, of course, gave an increase in weight (plus 31 kg). But the improvement was worth it - the power of the sports car increased to 525 liters. sec. and torque up to 530 Nm. Moreover, the moment curve is very gentle: already at idle speed (from 1000 rpm) more than 80% of the maximum moment is reached, that is, more than 400 Nm. And the speed of the V10 pistons reaches 27 m / s, which is very close to the characteristics of the engine of the Formula 1 car.

As a result, the Audi R8 V10 picks up speed from 0 to 100 km / h in some 3.9 seconds. (which is 0.7 seconds faster than the Audi R8 4.2). So not a single Audi sports car has been sprung up yet. For comparison, the racing prototype Audi R8 (which accounted for five victories at Le Mans from 2000 to 2005) accelerated from 0 to 100 km / h in just 0.5 seconds faster than the Audi R8 V10. Is this not an indicator ?!

A few more technical features. So the dry sump lubrication system allowed the Audi R8 V10 to significantly reduce the center of gravity of the 90 degree “classic” V-engine. The designers have achieved ideal for mid-engined auto weight distribution along the axes in the ratio of 44 to 56. But the suspension has become a little stiffer. In order to level the “excess” weight that arose, it was necessary to install more viscous shock absorbers on all four wheels, and stiffer springs at the rear. Nevertheless, on the road it is not easy to feel this difference. Moreover, the adaptive tuning system of the Audi Magnetic Ride shock absorbers that is already familiar to the Audi R8, depending on the driving style and nature of the road surface, constantly changes the viscosity of the shock-absorbing oil.

Safety and comfort

The comfort of the new Audi R8 V10 is facilitated by the maximum soundproofing of the cabin from engine noise, which is ensured by a transparent double-pane glass screen.

And thanks to the sheer number of honeycomb body rigidity designs, many racing cars can envy the Audi R8 V10.

Established Audi R8 brakes with disc diameters of 365 and 356 mm are quite acceptable for this car and are able to provide decent braking dynamics, but if you prefer an aggressive driving style (which is 99% true, otherwise why buy an Audi R8 V10), then it’s better to immediately equip R8 ceramic brakes (optional). Carbon-silicon brake discs with a diameter of 380 and 356 mm are not only 9 kg lighter than regular (steel), which already reduces unsprung masses, but are also more wear-resistant (resource ~ 300,000 km), more resistant to overheating under hard braking and, of course, more effective.

Compared to the Lamborghini Gallardo, the wheelbase of the Audi R8 V10 is 90 mm longer. And we compare the German novelty with the “Italian”, because there are not so many design differences between the Audi R8 and Lamborghini Gallardo. Of course, the Audi R8 is much more comfortable. Nevertheless, the Italian influence is clearly visible in this car. This is, first of all, the R-tronic robotic sequential gearbox. By the way, some strains in the work of the "machine" were observed in the previous version of Audi, and the 5.2 liter engine only exacerbated this situation. With a quiet ride on the highway - everything is more or less normal, but it is worth adding a little aggression, and each switch starts to be heard with noticeable stabs in the back. For the “Spartan” character of the Lamborghini Gallardo, this is, in principle, okay, but for the Audi R8 (more comfort-oriented), such impulses are already too much.

In manual mode, the Audi R8 gearbox behaves much better. Instant (in just 0.1 s) switching literally transform the character of this sports car. But at the same time, it’s not the “box” but the driver who has to strain. Perhaps Audi wanted to improve the performance of the gearbox, but pushing in the R8 DSG with two clutches is simply unrealistic due to lack of space.

Inside the cabin

If we talk about the interior of the Audi R8, then here we have an elegant nappa finish, and leather seats, and a multifunctional multi-system from Bang & Olufsen sound masters with 12 speakers, and air conditioning, and great navigation, and just - a unique driver’s atmosphere. On request, the car can be equipped with a rear view camera with a parking system and all kinds of sports accessories.

Eventually

Be that as it may, the test drive showed that the unpleasant nuances in the work of the Italian "robot" - perhaps the only thing you can seriously complain about in the new Audi R8. The steering of the Audi R8 V10 is sharp; strict neutral understeer and asphalt grip - excellent and fully predictable. And this means that the sliding of all four wheels will be as safe as possible, and before us is a worthy car for those who like to ride "with the breeze". Despite the fact that the Audi R8 V10, unlike its competitors (Porsche 911 Turbo or, of the same, Lamborghini Gallardo), with similar dynamic characteristics, forgives people driving more errors, which greatly facilitates the daily operation of the car. The new Audi R8 V10 can now be purchased at Audi brand dealerships throughout the Middle East, including in the UAE.
