Dubai police have identified the cause of the fire in Torch Tower

A Dubai police spokesman said the reason why nearly 40 apartments were burned in the Torch Tower.

The cigarette thrown from the top floor of the building caused a fire at the Torch Tower in Dubai Marina on August 4, 2017.

Recall that almost half of the 86-story tower, the fifth largest residential building in the world, was engulfed in fire. 38 apartments were damaged during the fire.

According to Major General Abdullah Khalifa Al-Marri, the commander in chief of police in Dubai, a cigarette butt landed on a pot on the balcony of one of the apartments. This started the fire. Then the flame spread to the facing of the building.

This is not the first such incident in Dubai. The 34-story Tamweel Tower in Jumeirah Lake Towers also caught fire due to a cigarette.
