An alcohol license (Alcoholic Drinks License), issued to foreign residents of the United Arab Emirates under the Dubai Emirate’s Alcoholic Beverages Act of 1972, entitles its holders to purchase, transport and consume alcohol while in the United Arab Emirates.
Obtaining an alcohol license
Any resident of the emirate of Dubai who is 21 years old who is not a Muslim and with a salary of at least 3,000 dirhams per month is entitled to apply for a license.
To obtain an alcohol license, the applicant must submit to the police a completed application of the established form, indicating the following data:
- First Name Last Name;
- Nationality (citizenship);
- Religion;
- Date of Birth;
- Floor;
- Family status;
- Passport data;
- Resident visa data;
- Permanent address in the UAE;
- Home and mobile phone numbers;
- E-mail address;
- Mailing address;
- Name and surname of the spouse who will have the right to purchase alcohol under the issued license;
- The data of the employer company, indicating the salary and monthly limit of allowed spending on alcohol, certified by the signature and stamp of the company.
All these data will subsequently be recorded on the micro chip of the plastic card, which, in essence, is the alcohol license.
The application signed by the resident and his employer must be accompanied by:
- Photocopy of the passport - the main page and the page with a glued visa;
- Photocopy of labor card (Labor card);
- Photocopy of the company license (for the applicant-owner of the company);
- Photocopy of an apartment rental contract;
- One passport-size photograph + photograph of a spouse who will have the right to purchase alcohol under a licensed license;
You can get an application form for an alcohol license at any of the stores officially selling alcohol in the UAE. As a rule, these are stores of the MMI and African & Eastern networks. Through these same stores, you can submit a completed application.
Validity of the alcohol license
The license is issued for a period of 1 year.

The cost of the license is 270 UAE dirhams.
Alcohol license limit
The limit of monthly spending on alcohol is usually determined from the calculation of 10% of the amount of wages.
Purchase of alcohol under license
Having a license in his hands, a UAE resident has the right to buy alcoholic beverages in authorized stores and carry out their delivery from the store to the place of permanent residence.
