All surveillance cameras in Dubai will learn to recognize faces

Dubai's surveillance cameras will switch to artificial intelligence and form a single “smart” network.

All surveillance cameras of various government agencies in Dubai will now be connected to the central command center. They form a new network of artificial intelligence and will broadcast images in real time. The cameras will track crimes in three sectors: tourism, transportation, and retail. They will support face recognition technology.

According to police, the network of cameras is gradually moving to the requirements of a smart city.

After announcing the program, Major General Khalil Ebrahim Al-Mansouri, Assistant Commander-in-Chief for Criminal Investigations, said the new project called "Oyoon" lane. - The eyes will be focused on crime and will help reduce the number of road traffic accidents and congestion.

"Dubai is changing, and we must be prepared for new changes. The project was launched by the Dubai Police Commander-in-Chief to fight crime and reduce traffic accidents. The government and the private sector will be involved in protecting the emirate," said Major General Al Mansouri.

Thanks to artificial intelligence, cameras will be able to analyze what is happening on video in real time without human intervention. This will help the police to identify crimes and accidents.

“Many agencies in Dubai use CCTV cameras, and we strive to link them all in one place for data analysis and faster emergency response. Oyoon will link all government and private sector surveillance cameras. This will end the crime in Dubai,” Al added Mansouri.

Dubai police said it could also use the audio system in the cameras to convince thieves before they commit crimes.

"Imagine a burglar who wants to break into a jewelry store. We can use the audio system to warn him that we are watching him to run away," said Jamal Salim Al-Jallaf, deputy director of the Department of Administrative Affairs.

Oyoon is implemented with the participation of strategic partners from the public sector, such as the State Security Agency, the Security Regulatory Agency (SIRA), the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA), the Dubai Municipality, the Electricity and Water Resources Authority (Dewa), the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), Muhammad Bin Rashid Space Center (MBRSC), Dubai Smart Office, and private sector strategic partners such as the Nakheel Group, Meraas Group, Dubai Properties, Dubai World Trade Center, Global Village and Madinat Jumeirah.
