UAE's easternmost airport will be able to receive A380 aircraft

Thanks to the expansion, the Emirate of Fujairah Airport will be able to host the largest serial airliner in the world.

As part of the project to expand the airport of the Emirate of Fujairah, UAE, the runway is being modernized. As a result, the airport will be able to accept aircraft the size of an A380. The emirate aims to attract more visitors to the east coast of the UAE. All work on the plans should be completed by 2020, officials said.

The plans also include the construction of a flight control tower in the form of a falcon. The project is funded by the federal government in collaboration with the airport company of Abu Dhabi and is part of the development plans for the only emirate overlooking the Indian Ocean, Sheikh Hamad Al Sharki, ruler of Fujairah.

“Airport expansion will begin a new era,” said Charles Hydeou, acting general manager of the airport, “It will bring increased airport efficiency.”

Modernization of the runways will allow taxis like the largest serial airliner in the world, the Airbus A380, to land and take off from the airport. The new falcon-shaped flight control tower will be taller than the current one.
