The UAE seriously took up the fight against crimes against domestic workers

The UAE adopted a resolution establishing a special body to deal with crimes committed against domestic attendants.

The day before, a special body was established in the UAE that will protect the rights of domestic attendants. According to the state news agency, the decision to establish such a body was put forward by the Deputy Prime Minister, the Minister for Presidential Affairs and the chairman of the Judicial Department of Abu Dhabi, Sheikh Mansour ibn Zayed Al Nahyan.

Yousef Saeed Al Abri, Acting Deputy Secretary of the Judicial Department of Abu Dhabi, said that in addition to passing laws, the priority of the UAE government is to ensure respect for human rights within the framework of an integrated system at the social, educational and institutional levels.

Al Abri said that this decision was made in accordance with article No. 3 of the Federal Law on Domestic Workers, adopted by President Sheikh Khalifa Ibn Zayed Al Nahyan.

The Domestic Workers Act, passed by the Federal National Council, guarantees the protection of the rights of all domestic workers. Compliance with the law is monitored by the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratization, the UAE labor market regulator.

The number of domestic workers in the UAE totals about 750 thousand people, which is about 25% of all working expatriates.

The new law establishes the principle of informed consent, which means that the employee is aware of the terms of the contract before leaving his home country. This principle is consistent with the UAE's provisions regarding standardization of contracts.

The law establishes the minimum daily hours of rest for domestic workers, guarantees paid annual leave, weekends and the ability to protect their rights in government. The law establishes the compliance of labor standards applicable to domestic workers with the minimum requirements on the UAE labor market.
