The number of accidents in the UAE during Ramadan increases sharply

According to studies, the number of accidents during the holy month of Ramadan is increasing sharply.

According to a study conducted by RoadSafetyUAE based on 1,651 registered accidents / complaints in the UAE during Ramadan last year, motorists aged 40 and over are more likely to have road accidents than younger motorists. Motorists from 40 years old are also more likely to get into accidents than representatives of the age group 30-35 years old. Moreover, men are much more likely to get into accidents than women.

Most accidents happen during rush hours, when many rush to work. Accidents are fairly evenly distributed throughout the four weeks of Ramadan, but Tuesday is the most dangerous day and Saturday is the least dangerous.

There was also a breakdown of persons participating in road accidents by nationality, the number of immigrants from India exceeded 47%, followed by the Emirates - 14%, and Pakistanis - 12%. Egyptians and Jordanians account for 6 and 3 percent of the total, respectively, the remaining 18% are from other nationalities.

"It is imperative to keep in mind that the behavior of road users during Ramadan is changing," said Thomas Edelmann, founder and managing director of RoadSafetyUAE.

“In the holy month of Ramadan, the number of traffic accidents, injuries and deaths increases dramatically. It is very sad to see hundreds of accidents and dozens of dead every year. Ramadan is a special time, every person needs to be close to their loved ones, which creates congestion on the roads. However, it’s not worth it forget that during holidays for motorists and pedestrians there are a large number of dangerous situations, "Mr. Edelmann emphasized.

Frederick Bisbrzherk, Executive Vice President of i-Insured, said: “Based on the data analyzed, there are three main conclusions: motorists older than forty years should be especially careful, be especially vigilant during peak hours, and men need to drive more carefully. "
