Dubai Customs Unveils Confiscated Goods Data

Dubai Customs has published figures to combat the import of counterfeit goods for the first half of 2018.

Dubai Customs released figures on the volume of confiscated goods. So, in the first half of 2018, the Dubai Customs Service confiscated 130 shipments in connection with the violation of intellectual property rights. The total amount of confiscated goods is estimated at more than 35 million dirhams.

Among the seized goods: electronics, watches, glasses, spare parts for cars, textiles, bags and shoes.

Last April, Dubai Customs and Brand Owners' Protection Group GCC & Yemen (BPG) signed an agreement to coordinate efforts to combat infringement of intellectual property rights. The agreement establishes a framework for bilateral cooperation and the exchange of necessary information to combat piracy.

Confiscated counterfeit goods are processed, so the second life of counterfeits benefits society: for example, they are used as part of the environmental program of the Dubai Customs. The measures taken by customs help protect owners of the rights to brands and prevent the spread of counterfeit products in the UAE.

Yusuf Ozeir Mubarak, Director of the Department of Intellectual Property Rights of Dubai Customs, said: “Following the wise instructions of the leadership of our country, we maintain the authenticity and originality of products sold in the UAE. In this regard, we establish partnerships with various stakeholders, consolidating efforts aimed at protection of intellectual property rights We cooperate with many authorities both at the local and federal levels, as well as private companies-owners of rights. tnye efforts help protect the inhabitants of the United Arab Emirates from purchasing counterfeit goods. "

Mr. Mubarak added: "The Dubai Customs has all the necessary technical means for checking goods, and our employees are distinguished by high competence and professionalism - all this helps to effectively deal with pirates."

In the first half of 2018, the service organized 26 different programs to combat the violation of intellectual property rights.

It is worth noting that Customs officers regularly meet with owners of intellectual property rights, which allows for high efficiency in the fight against piracy and the import of counterfeit goods in the UAE.
