The longest ultramarathon in the world will be held in Dubai

Runners from all over the world will take part in a record ultramarathon, which will be held on the territory of the Dubai reserve.

This December, runners from 36 countries will compete for victory in the longest ultramarathon on the planet - Meraas Al Marmoom Ultramarathon 2018.

The marathon is held from December 11 to 15 at the Al Marmoom Nature Reserve in Dubai under the auspices of the Emirate Sports Council. His organization is supported by the municipality, Dubai Ambulance and DEWA.

The five-day Meraas Al Marmoom Ultramarathon will allow athletes to test their endurance at a distance of 270 km of a complex desert landscape.

Dubai managed to establish itself as an important Middle East destination for serious athletes and adventure seekers. Through the holding of an ultramarathon at Al Marmoom, Meraas supports the emirate's efforts to conserve the UAE's natural resources.

Al Marmoom Nature Reserve will be the largest tourist attraction of its kind in the country. It occupies almost 10 percent of the total emirate. Dubai is working hard to provide a balanced ecosystem for thousands of wildlife and migratory birds. Ecological, cultural and sporting events help the emirate in this.

His Excellency Said Khareb, Secretary General of the Sports Council of Dubai, said: "Meraas Al Marmoom Ultramarathon 2018 is a truly unique event that challenges the boundaries of human endurance, and I am very pleased that all leading ultra-marathon runners have accepted this challenge."

“In accordance with the instructions of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice President and Prime Minister and ruler of Dubai, we want to turn the magnificent Al Marmoom Nature Reserve into an eco-center for sports and one of the most popular places in the world for sports tourism, "he added.

Said Khareb noted that by 2030 it is planned to hold over 20 annual sporting events in the reserve.

The ultramarathon will bring together world-famous athletes from Morocco, Jordan, Denmark, France, Turkey and other countries.

Al Marmoom Ultramarathon offers three courses to choose from - the longest desert run in the world (270 km), which runs for 5 days, as well as 100 and 50 km distances.

The runner camp will be located next to the beautiful lakes of the reserve - here tents, medical care and water will be available for athletes. Drinks and medical staff will wait for the runners at the control points along the race route.

The ultramarathon prize fund is $ US 80 thousand. Thus, Meraas Al Marmoom Ultramarathon is the most expensive race in the world. All finalists will receive electronic certificates and medals. According to the results of the marathon, at each distance a top-3 rating for men and women runners will be formed. Promised special awards for certain categories.

The event is attended by the Angel Wolf team - a family from Dubai who is raising a child with special needs. Their mission is to spread the message about the importance of including people with disabilities in public initiatives. They want to demonstrate that "everything is possible." The family consists of experienced athletes. The Angel Wolf team will run at the final distance of 50 km on the last day of the event.

Every Friday from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m., within the framework of the desert marathon, training will be held with the participation of eminent athletes. To join them, you must send a message to: [email protected]
