Dubai's busy street renamed in honor of Expo 2020

One of Dubai's main thoroughfares was renamed in honor of Expo 2020 as directed by the ruler of the emirate.

Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice President and Prime Minister and ruler of Dubai, ordered the renaming of Jebel Ali Lehbab Road to Expo Road.

The renaming is related to the approach of the International Expo 2020 exhibition, which will be organized for the first time in the region of the Middle East, North Africa and Southeast Asia. The Expo will be held in Dubai from October 20, 2020 to April 10, 2021.

The Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) said it has replaced all 68 signposts associated with the old name of the road.

RTA CEO and Chairman Mattar Al-Thayer said: "Expo Road is a strategic connection ... offering an alternative route for motorists heading to the Jebel Ali Industrial Area and surrounding areas."

Expo Road leads to several important points in the emirate, such as the Jebel Ali Free Zone Authority, Dubai South and Dubai Investment Park, as well as directly to the venue itself.

RTA has implemented several traffic optimization projects at Expo Road, including expanding lanes from four to six in each direction and building four junctions at Emirates Road, Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Road, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road and Al Asayel Road. Six new bridges were also built in parallel with the route, in addition to the overpass at the Expo Road and Sheikh Zayed Road intersections.
