Sketch in color

JEFF PINK, FOUNDER OF ORLY, FOR 30 YEARS, ARE ABLE TO TRANSFORM YOUR COMPANY TO THE MOST FAMOUS BRAND FOR TODAY, RELEASING PRODUCTS FOR CARE OF NAILS. IN AN INTERVIEW TO OUR MAGAZINE, HE TOLD ABOUT HOW THE FRENCH MANICURE CREATED AND WHICH COLORS WILL BE ACTUAL THIS SUMMER AND AUTUMN.

Text: Anna Pavlova

Jeff, you own the authorship of such a famous French manicure, which has been popular for several decades. How did you get this idea?

Jeff: Everything is very simple. This happened just a year after the creation of ORLY. I was invited to manicure the actresses in one of the Hollywood films, but the manicure should have come up with all the dresses at once! But in those days, and these were the 70s, it was customary to select varnish exclusively for the color of the dress. I suggested a natural manicure - a natural color and white tips, and called it "Natural Nail" because it perfectly imitated the appearance of beautiful and healthy nails. Then I left for work in France, and when I came back to the States, everyone decided that I had brought this idea from Paris, and began to call it "French." Incidentally, I was not against it at all!

They say that in creating the design of the jars themselves, you have one know-how that you have patented.

Jeff: This is our signature varnish cap called Gripper Cap. There are special notches on it, thanks to which you can easily open ORLY varnish with just two fingers without much effort.

This is the first time you released BB nail polish this season.

Jeff: This is our absolute novelty, having the same concept as any BB cream. The varnish has a slightly pinkish tint, which is almost imperceptible. This is not a base for varnish and not the final coating. This is an independent varnish that gives the nail a perfect tone. By the way, men can also use it.

Your collections are always very diverse. How do ideas for creating colors come about?

Jeff: Ideas come while traveling. New countries, cities, landscapes, beautiful girls, smells, sounds, nature ... All this is put off in my mind and in my soul.

What, in your opinion, are the fashion trends in the world of varnishes for this season?

Jeff: In summer I recommend bright, eye-catching colors, but in the fall - a calmer pastel color, combined with very beautiful dark shades in the smoky eyes style - the colors of femininity and tenderness. This fall, cream, beige, gray, sand and burgundy will dominate the color palette this fall.

How do you see the future of the nail industry?

Jeff: I'm sure that neon and sparkling colors will still dominate fashion. I think that technology will go in the direction of creating 3D and 4D shades that add depth. However, no one will ever cancel the naturalness.
