In the spring, several elite cloned camels will be born in the UAE

The Dubai Camel Reproduction Center is expecting the addition of a camel to the family of cloned cubs next spring. A few camels should be born just a year after the world's first clone camel was bred in the center.

Unlike Injaz, the world's first camel clone, born April 8, 2009, new clones will have “elite” genes. "Injaz is an experimental animal," said Nizar Vani, director of the Center for Camel Reproduction. “He became a clone of a simple camel, which was slaughtered for meat in 2005. A new generation of camel clones has the best genes. They must produce milk of the highest quality and in optimal quantities.”

It is still not known for certain how many clones will be born: several camels are born to the babies. If this experiment is successful, the center plans to clone camels for camel milk producers. Injaz, which today is more than 8 months old, is developing just like the rest of the camel of her age.
