Umm al-Quwain has become a gas-producing emirate. The first batch of natural gas was obtained from an offshore field 20 kilometers from the coast of the emirate, which is part of the UAE. The first batch mining day, May 2, will go down in the history of the emirate. It is expected that daily gas production will be 100 million cubic feet. Work on preparing the gas field for operation was started in 2006.
The extracted "blue fuel" via an underwater 75-kilometer gas pipeline will be delivered to Huweir Bay in Ras Al Khaimah for processing at a local gas enterprise. The gas production platform is located at more than 10 meters depth. The gas production process is fully automated.
