New UAE bridge to ease traffic between Dubai and Sharjah

The new bridge in the United Arab Emirates will reduce the traffic load on the country's roads.

The Ministry of Infrastructure Development is building a bridge in the Al Beda area in the emirate of Sharjah, UAE, worth 200 million dirhams ($ 54.4 million).

The main project is expected to be completed in the third quarter of next year. Ahmed Al-Hammadi, the road manager at the ministry, said: "The bridge consists of six lanes on Emirates Road and three lanes on Sharjah-Mleiha Road."

The bridge will take on the flow of traffic from the northern and eastern emirates, in the direction of the emirates of Dubai and Abu Dhabi, added Al-Hammadi.

“The project will significantly increase the capacity of the road from 9.9 thousand to 17.7 thousand cars per hour in all directions,” he added.

According to him, the bridge will also reduce travel time and reduce congestion from Dubai to Sharjah and northern emirates.

Emirates Road will also be expanded to six lanes, while damaged sections on Al Dhaid-Mleiha Road will be repaired and the road will be connected to the Mleiha Road under construction.

Al-Hammadi added that construction work on three roads has already been completed, as well as some sections of the metro, in accordance with the schedule. The mega-project at Al Beda is based on traffic forecasts for the next 20 years.
