In Dubai, fines will be raised for motorists who do not allow pedestrians

Dubai police have installed new cameras at pedestrian crossings.

Dubai, UAE. Dubai police have installed new advanced cameras at pedestrian crossings to tighten control on offending motorists. In particular, the penalty for not admitting a pedestrian on a zebra is 500 dirhams.

“Many drivers don’t let pedestrians pass at a pedestrian crossing. This is a serious violation that can result in personal injury and even death. It is punishable by a fine of 500 dirhams and six penalty points,” said Major General Mohammed Safe Al Zafin, Chairman of the Federal Council for road traffic.

He also recalled that motorists are required to slow down when approaching a pedestrian crossing, especially in busy residential areas.
