Dior Showcases His New Couture Collection Under the Dome of a Circus in Dubai

The new couture collection spring-summer 2019 of the Dior Fashion House is dedicated to the theme of circus art.

The circus is a magical place and a whole fantastic world. He served as a source of inspiration for many artists. Christian Dior creative director Maria Grazia Curie drew ideas from the circus world for the spring-summer 2019 collection, which was presented in Paris this January. This March, a grandiose fashion show was carried over to the Dubai fashion scene.

Fifteen exclusive items were created for display in Dubai. In the middle of Safa Park, the Dior tent was laid out, in which the mystery and extravaganza of circus art was created, accompanied by the aesthetics of Fellini, Picasso and the music of Nino Rota.

The theme of the circus accompanies the history of the fashion house for many years. Christian Dior liked to go to Cirque d'Hiver, in 1950 British television covered the next show of the House in London in a report entitled "Dior Circus Comes to the City." The theme of the circus revived in the history of Dior under the leadership of John Galliano. Then it became clear how much the fashion show and the parade opening the circus show had in common.

The fantastic creative chaos of the circus served as a starting point for Maria Grazia Curie to create a new collection and show around the show.

An important role in the collection is played by the principle of multi-layering: the body overalls with amazing patterns are created in the image of a tattoo reminiscent of circuses and fair booths of the Victorian era. The color scheme from countless powdery shades echoes the palette used by Pablo Picasso when working on the curtain for the ballet Parade, and recalls the worn out stage costumes sprinkled with mothballs. Short skirts embroidered and decorated with opaque sequins practically turn into bundles, transferring the audience to the world of acrobats, tamers and horsewomen.

On the basis of circus images, Maria Grazia Curie creates very lightweight wide trousers, tapering at the ankle, which are also presented in the form of full-fledged overalls. Transparent white blouses with corrugated collars or “vintage” ribbons are matched to the shorts.
