The date palm itself is the oldest cultivated plant on the Arabian Peninsula and in Asia, known to man for about 9 thousand years. For example, in ancient Egypt, she was a symbol of the god Amon Ra. The cities of Jericho and Palmyra were named after this fruitful tree. Nowadays, in honor of the palm trees, alluvial islands were built along the coast of Dubai, which have no analogues in the world.

Date palm - a recognized symbol of the United Arab Emirates. The cultivation of plantations began in the 70s of the XX century by decree of Sheikh Zayed Al Nahyan, the first president of the united state. According to some estimates, today more than 40 million palm trees grow in the UAE, most of which are in Abu Dhabi and in the oases of Liva and Al Ain. About 10 different varieties of fruit are grown here, including “fard”, “lulu”, “maktumi”, “dabbas”, “barhi”, “halas”, “shishi” and “jabri”.

It is believed that the palm can bear fruit for up to 100 years, with each tree consuming up to 200 liters of water daily. Harvesting begins in July and ends in November.

Date fruits are a balm for the heart, an assistant for blood circulation and a nutritious shake for the immune system. Due to the high content of iron, magnesium, phosphorus, proteins, vitamins and amino acids, they can fully satisfy the body's need for nutrients. That is why the nomads always took them along with them, preparing to go long distances.
