Dubai authorities have launched a new project “Sports Destinations Map” (SDM), which will be a map of about 100 sports facilities of the emirate with their GPS coordinates. The goal of the initiative is to strengthen relations between the fields of sport and tourism in the country.
The card was presented at a press conference at the Dubai Sports Council (DSC), held by Dr. Ahmed Al Sharif, Secretary General of the Council. “This is a historic moment for us. Not only because we are introducing a tourist map for the first time.
But also because Dubai continues to be a pioneer in various fields on a global scale, "Al-Sharif said. The SDM card has 100 sports facilities located in the emirate, with their satellite coordinates, contact information and location map. These included cross-country and bike paths, as well as beaches where you can go scuba diving or fishing. The main attractions of the emirate are no exception. Places of worship such as the Burj Al Arab Hotel or the Burj Khalifa skyscraper are also marked on the map.
"The card is intended for both residents of Dubai and tourists. It will contain all the necessary information with which you can get access to all the sports complexes of the emirate," said the DSC representative. It will be retailed at fuel stations, in bookstores and department stores. Also in the development of the council is its electronic version.
