21st Century Grand Voyage

As far back as the 17th century, young British aristocrats embarked on a long journey through Europe, so that, having reached its southern extremities, they could personally imagine the divine art of the Renaissance - in Rome, Venice, Florence, Pisa and Pompeii. Two centuries later, a rail service was launched on the continent, and the fascinating pilgrimage of young art lovers turned into a sightseeing tour of European capitals. Today, many residents of the Middle East made it a rule to move from the summer heat to the mild climate of the Mediterranean. Contrary to popular belief, Europe is not empty this season. Numerous colorful festivals and festivals, street shows and performances and, of course, traditional summer sales make here a short vacation in a holiday that is always with you.

All thoughts about the Olympics

"A person who can take over the conversation at a London dinner can take over the world," said Oscar Wilde. This summer to get to know London if you have not been there before, it's time. Celebrations in honor of the "diamond" anniversary of the reign of the British Queen Elizabeth II, and on the threshold of the thirtieth Summer Olympics, which will be held from July 27 to August 12. The capital of Misty Albion is the only city to host games for the third time. For two weeks the city is plunged into sports fever, so we recommend taking care of booking air tickets and hotels in advance.

To the islands, to the islands

Please note that we are always inevitably drawn to distant islands, where it seems that a person’s foot has not set foot on white sand. “It's in our blood - longing for paradise,” said Henry Miller. And he was right.

It is hard to imagine that just a couple of decades ago, the names of the Seychelles and Maldives archipelagos seemed inaccessible exotic. And today world-class resorts are spread on them, and the tranquility of untouched nature is easily adjacent to the latest achievements of civilization. But, at the same time, deep in the tropical jungle - everything is still the same as with our ancestors. As if you are traveling in time.

Next - only Antarctica!

“The sea is open from this jungle, these shores to the pole,” these lines of Ivan Bunin come to mind when you are standing on the southern tip of Sri Lanka, at the foot of the Dondra lighthouse. This island is famous for tea plantations, diamond mines and the ancient art of Ayurveda.

It contains eight world heritage sites at once - Galle, Kandy, Sigiriya, Anuradhapura, Polonnarnuwa, Dambula Cave Temple, Central Mountains and Sinharaja National Park. Traditionally, tourists are sent on a trip along the so-called “Golden Triangle”, which includes the elephant nursery, and rock temples, and the botanical garden, where Yuri Gagarin himself planted a tree, and climbing the island’s highest mountain - the famous Adam's Peak, which begins after midnight and ends before sunrise. At the top of the mountain, holy to representatives of all three world religions, a large imprint of the human foot is hidden. Buddhists believe that Buddha himself performed a miracle here, physically being simultaneously in two places. Muslims are sure that this is the “mark” of the first man of Adam, left by him after the expulsion from Paradise. Hindus, however, believe that God Shiva left a trace after his "cosmic dance" during the creation of the world. Island Christians attribute this imprint to the Apostle Thomas, who preached in South India and visited Ceylon.

I must say that the whole island is saturated with its ancient legends and inspired by the belief in the triumph of good over evil. You can go round it on a moped, stopping in cafes, where homemade rice and curry is prepared in clay pots. Or take control of a real ocean wave on a surf, film a real "orange" sunset, which, probably, is only at the equator. The island has the largest collection of Buddha statues, and here you can find Catholic crosses of temples and shining crescents of mosques. Each civilization coming here left its imprint in Sri Lanka, while the island itself was able to maintain its pristine purity.

Africa time

For Russian schoolchildren, Nikolai Gumilev introduced his own, special world of the African continent - a romantic, full of dreams and mysteries. Now in traditional resorts - in Egypt and Tunisia - it is very turbulent, and there is reason to discover new unexplored routes. For example, Algeria or Kenya. The country in northern Africa impresses with its diverse landscapes and climatic zones and its own Mediterranean flavor. Here you can make a trip from the Roman ruins of Tipaza to the mountain oases of Tlemcen, the ancient adobe city of Gardaya and the city of domes of El Ued, where the legendary sultry Sahara begins.

The journey to the very “heart” of the black continent begins with exploring the city of contrasts - Nairobi, the largest settlement in East Africa. Local attractions include the National Museum with a rich anthropological collection, the parliament building with the mausoleum of the country's first president, Jomo Kenyatta, and the national archive. You should definitely visit Nairobi National Park, which is spread over an area of 114 square meters. km: here you can simultaneously enjoy the beauty of almost untouched wildlife and not lose sight of the silhouette of a big city.

I wonder if Africa has changed over the past century since the journey of our beloved silver age poet ?!
