Abu Dhabi authorities remind of a large fine for dog owners

The municipality of Abu Dhabi has launched a campaign against residents of the emirate who violate the rules of dog walking.

Walking a dog without a leash in public places in Abu Dhabi could result in a fine of at least 5 thousand dirhams ($ US 1.36 thousand), warned the municipality of Abu Dhabi. In the emirate it is also forbidden to go with dogs to shopping centers and restaurants.

A reminder of the fine was made as part of a campaign to raise awareness among residents of the need to take care of pets.

Dr. Saeed Muhammad al-Rumayti, head of the public security department of the municipality of Abu Dhabi, also recalled fines for the resale of protected animal species. A fine of 3 thousand dirhams ($ US 816) has been set for the sale of a sick animal.

The new rules on the ownership and protection of animal health, introduced by the municipality in 2018, stipulate that keeping any pets except cats and dogs in villas and apartments requires the permission of the municipality. Violators face a fine of 5 thousand dirhams.

Vendors are required to regularly conduct veterinary examinations of animals in accordance with the new rules. Pet shop owners were reminded that the sale of animals to children under 18 years of age without unaccompanied adults is prohibited by law.
